| Date From | 1890 | James Edgar, Kilmarnock, in an apron, stands with completed and half completed violins, and his trade tools, including planes.
In 1881, James (occupation - gardener) and his wife, Mary, were living at Richardland Brewery, Riccarton. They were both aged 33 and James was listed as born in Dunscore, Dumfries. James became the Cemetery Superintendent at Kilmarnock Cemetery and the family lived for many years in the cemetery lodge. Their grand-daughter remembers that James was the first person to grow tomatoes in Kilmarnock. Of their nine children, James became a violinist with a Scottish orchestra and Robert became a baillie and Justice of the Peace in Kilmarnock. |
