| Date From | | Archie Sim, control engineer at Barony Power Station checking the output of electricity. The room is a world of dials.
Archie Sim visited the Burns Monument Centre in Kilmarnock on Wed. 1st July and told staff that he worked at Barony Power Station from 1978 to approx. 1984. He indicated that the power station employed about 50 people at that time. The power station closed down because of the closure of Barony Pit which supplied the coal for the power station. For a time coal was transported to the power station from the east coast of Scotland – but this proved to be uneconomic. |
