Gasswater Barytes Mine Annual Dinner
©copyright East Ayrshire Libraries
| Date From | 1947 | The photograph was taken during an annual dinner of Anglo Austral Mines Ltd, owners of the Barytes Mine at Gasswater. It shows the staff, and partners, seated at long tables during a meal. The mine produced barium sulphate [barytes] which was used as a filter by the paint and paper industries, as well as in ceramics and glass production. A quartz like mineral, it varies in colour from pure white [high quality] to light pink. |
