| Date From | 1914 | Staff from Caledonia Works aircraft department. Matthew Pollock founded his Caledonia Cabinet Works [one of a number of factories in Beith making wooden furniture] in 1879. It was rebuilt after a fire in 1895 and was taken over by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society. In 1944 the factory passed to Beithcraft Ltd., the last furniture makers in Beith when they closed in 1979. Like many other factories, the Caledonia Works were directed to war works during both World Wars. |
