Date From | 1920 | A general view of Bello Mill with its water wheel and staff/owners. The mill was much rebuilt in the 1940s under the miller, Thomas Laird. Bello Mill is a grain Mill on the River Lugar. Before it was rebuilt in the 1940s it had three sets of mill stones; one pair for rough grinding, and the other pairs for grinding oatmeal, and for making animal feed. Bello Mill is famous for being the childhood home of William Murdoch, the Ayrshire man who pioneered the use of gas for lighting. |
